'Welcome to Rockport Area'
at Business HWY 35 and Liberty
After many months of consideration our self employed landscaper Clarence Butler of Rockport, and Cassandra Perkins of Rockport and Vice President of Keep Rockport Beautiful have come up with a wonderful plan for the "Welcome to Rockport Area" at Business Hwy 35 and Liberty. When the plants mature and spread, the sight will be spectacular. With the wonderful splashes of color, you can see the new young plants as you drive by Highway 35. We will keep you updated with photos as time passes. Enjoy the visual pictures.
Here is a description:
If you are standing in the corner of Liberty St. you will see to your left and to your right at each corner a Pygmy Date Palm. It is a miniature tree with a graceful crown of at least 50 or more lovely arching featherlike leaves and a narrow hairy trunk surrounded by (5) Jungle Flame (Red) Ixoras (a flowering shrub). The shrub produces all year around with green foliage and clusters of small red flowers. A small part of the flower will develop into a berry like fruit.
Next you will see coming towards you a line of plants leading from the Pygmy Date Palm. They are from the far left and far right coming towards you; the plants are a row of Gold Star Esperanzas (also known as Yellow Bells) which are fast growing shrubs that like our South Texas climate. They are praised for their large clusters of non-stop golden-yellow, bell-shaped flowers. It makes this sight very eye catching indeed as you see the arching stems of dark green foliage making sprays of green and gold.
Then following the rows of the lovely Esperanzas there are (7) Purple Durantas, which meet at a point in the corner. Durantas are a beautiful fragrant evergreen which are known for their prolific flowering of expressive purple and white flowers. It also produces golden-orange berries which also attract butterflies.
An added bonus throughout area, there are wildflowers sprayed all over the property. They consist of Meadow Pink wildflowers which is a deep blue/purple annual with deep rose-pink flowers. There are also flowers that look similar to Prickly Poppy wildflowers with gray-green foliage and stems covered in prickles and pink flowers. Next and finally there are some small Lazy Daisies which is a small white flower with a gold center all growing in splashes all over the field. We hope that you are fond of the view.

Labyrinth at Compass Rose Park
Enjoy Rockport's Newest Landmark

Keep Rockport Beautiful in partnership with
the Rockport Center for the Arts and the Texas Maritime Museum
are pleased to announce that
a Compass Rose Labyrinth has been constructed
at the Compass Rose Park located on Bus. Hwy 35 across from Little Bay.
A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools. A labyrinth has only one path. The way in is the way out. The path leads you on a circuitous path to the center and out again. People walk the labyrinth seeking calm, peace and tranquility.
The project is landscaped and wheelchair accessible with a new large bed of wildflowers to complement the overall effect.
